    Hello All,

There are a lot of complains from Mac Pro and newest Core 2 Duo Mac users about kernel panics or "grayed screen with different languages" on virtual machine startup.

The problem in using old Parallels Desktop Build 1848 (or 1848.2) which was released prior to Apple announce of Mac Pro and Core 2 Duo Macs and it is not compatible with these Macs.

Unfortunately this build is still available in retail stores (even in Apple stores) and staff is not aware of this problem.

If you have any problems with old retail version of Parallels Desktop - please upgrade it on build 1970! It can be freely download from our web site - http://www.parallels.com/en/download/desktop/ . Your permanent registration key will work with this version.

    boxed media should include...

..."given the rapid rate of evolution of both osx and apple hardware, we recommend you download the latest patch for parallels when installing."

all my clients know how important it is to have the latest (or close to the latest - depends on what software we're talking about) patches applied. it would be smart to include this statement (even in the form of a yellow printed card or flyer) in each box sold.

have you thought about adding a first-launch action that allows users to register AND notifies of new patches available? of course you MUST offfer admins a way to manage these things (eventually with site/volume licenses...and/or a way to manage through manifest editor in wgm).

So this build isn't important if I'm just a MB Core Duo user?

i tend to stay away from the last patch...unless it addresses an issue i'm having. as a sysadmin, it's always best to let someone else ride the bleeding edge. :) this goes for all software...

One small advantage I have from using the 1970 build is that I can tell the difference between my Windows VM and my Linux VM in the dock, as they are badged with the appropriate logos. That wouldn't help if I had two Linux VMs running, as they both get the penguin logo, but it's a small step forward.

I installed new version, now Parallels will not work at all.

Do I have to un-install? Will this mean re-installing all my Windows and Windows programs?

Any other way? I have a back up from last time it worked, if I knew which files to replace. I really do not want to reinstall all that windows stuff plus those updates. Please help.

I had that problem, and had to revert to build 1848, with the legacy mode fix on my Mac Pro

Uninstalling doesn't affect your existing files and VM installations, and I was able to continue running them under the old version.

After a day or two I tried again, and the 1970 build installed without a problem. I've no idea what changed to make it work - certainly nothing I did deliberately. Now the same VMs are still working with 1970.

    Crashing on restarting of Parallels

I just got bought the retail version of Parallels, installed and updated to build 1970. After configuring a VM running Ubuntu, I found that if I shutdown the VM and quit Parallels, the next time when I execute Parallels again, it'll crash. The only way around it is to move the ~/Library/Parallels/ out to some where, start up Parallels, quit it, move the folder back, and then it'll work.
I'm running it on a C2D MBP with 2GB RAM. The crash log looks like:

Thanks for the help. I uninstalled and installed the new version.

I still cannot print to my network printer. (Bonjour says the parameters are wrong)

    Same problem with build 1970

I have had the same problem with being unable to install Windows XP on my iMac 20" duo core. I got hte gray screen when I installed the XP disk. I followed the advice and downloaded build 1970. Unfortunately, the same thing happened -- the screen came down again after I installed the XP disk. Nothing is wrong with the XP disk -- I installed in Boot Camp with no problem. What do I do now?

Have you tried powering down the iMac and rebooting?

I have downloaded the new version, and now when I try to install Parallel Tools, the video driver instantly crashes and blue screens Windows. Any ideas?

Please, make sure of running Parallels from new shortcut.

Definitely using a new shortcut. The machine crashes whenever a resolution change takes place - i.e. when the machine is being logged off. Logging out crashes to a blue screen with win32k.sys errors.

    german version of build 1970

I have bought a CD of Parallels including the german version 1940 or something.

Where can I finde the german version of build 1970 since the update function doesn't seem to work.
Will my pass code of german build 1940 also work with the english version of build 1970 ?

    cheers

Local keys and English build aren’t compatible.

Please re-install your local Parallels build and update it following the instruction:

Run Parallels Desktop, then click on the Parallels Window, after that Parallels Menu will appear.
Open "Help"->"Check for Updates…" menu option.

I have a UK-boxed version, will there be a beta build of the latest release available?

Your can evaluate US beta with the trial key - you can request one here - http://www.parallels.com/en/account/. We don't plan special UK beta. You will recieve free UK update once it reach GA state.

Trying not to complain, but... is there a good reason why the boxed version serial numbers won't work with the US version? I mean, I paid for the program didn't I?
