Is it possible to make use of a high speed Gigibit Ethernet connnection from within XP running within Parallels on a MacPro?

I want to run VNCViewer from within XP and use one network connection on my MacPro to connect directly to my other PC box. I am hoping that VNCViewer will work faster if it can make use of a direct gigibit connection. Its nice that I can have multiple network connections now, but it always sees my gigibit connection as 10 Mb/s instead of 1000....

    Thanks for any pointers.

Youre doing this over a LAN?

10MBS is way more then you need anyways... People have a severe misconception of ethernet speeds. Stores would have you believe you need 100mbs or 1000mbs connections. How fast does your cable modem go? Probably no faster then 200-500KBs.

What are you doing with that extra 999.5MBs of bandwidth? Nothing...

Ok, so for LANs there are practical purposes. You can send files much faster, but besides direct massive file copies, you still dont need 100MBs or 1000MBs for anything. Even at 10MBs you could send huge files in a few minutes.

On to VNC... VNC uses very little bandwidth comparatively speaking. It takes a picture and sends it to the client. It is smart and "re-paints" only portions of the screen that need to be.. You dont even need a very fast connection to use it smoothly over the internet accross countries, let alone in a LAN situation. 10MBs is still about 1000x overkill for VNC in a LAN environment.

Well I'm still confused that Paralllels cannot seem to identify a Gigibit connection.

When I use my MacPro's gigibit ethernet via a router (that is contrained to 100 Mbs), it identifies that connection to my other box, correctly at 100Mbs.

Just curious if anyone has gotten a Gigibit connection to connect at Gigibit speeds from within Paralllels. Not sure if the direct connnection is the problem.

Seems nice having a seperate ethernet for a private connnection to my other box because it allows me to not have to upgrade my router and allows me to setup firewall rules around just that ethernet connection. I do transfer large video files as well, hence my desire to get this going.
