Not sure if what I am trying to do will work. I have a program in windows that has a button that when you press it, it auto exports a report into excel. The problem is when I press it, it tells me I have no excel installed. Is there anyway to to get it to load excel for mac? Maybe a feature down the road, like the internet apps, have options for word, excel and such...
Basically, it depends on the program you use. I would suggest to set up windows to automatically open .xls files with Excel for Mac, but that would not help if the program configured to work with Microsoft Excel. Surely, you need to have Smartselect enabled and configured, i.e. you should see excel for Mac in "Open with" options.

I do have .xls opening up on the mac, I fear it has to do with the program is configured to work with excel, like you said. Thats why maybe like i mentioned earlier, a future feature to tell windows to use mac excel for everything, like the internet apps. I don't even know if it would be possible but one can hope. Thanks though!
