Awesome ... I went to run Parallels (the recent beta) and when it went to install it's tools, I could see the window say "unable to find OS" in the background, and now my XP is rendered completely useless, even via bootcamp. AWESOME! Thanks guys -- good stuff. I can't launch any of my normal VM's because I get told I don't have enough memory (which is crap) and then I trash my bootcamp partition as well. Goooooooood stuff.
. Seems there is a little misunderstanding in place here. Beta = smart move to install in a test environment until proven. .
I am fully aware it's beta -- my beef is that *nothing* is working. It's not just that the boot camp part happened, it's that it happened after a long string of failures. This is on a stock MacPro with a fresh OS installed and parallels instaleld along with it. I'll just stick with final releases, but even those don't work entirely (my smart card reader is not seen, as an example). I'll try VMWare too to see if it's better at this. I appreciate the speed at which this product is developing, but I don't feel I have ever received a "final" copy. So in my mind, the entire thing has been one prolonged beta.
But beware VMware Fusion is beta too ! And it will not work with bootcamp... I think the final versions of Parallels Desktop 2.0 were: 1848(.2), 1970. Every other versions are developer/alpha/beta or rc... Now were in the beta phase of 2.5...
Uezi -- I know they labled them final, but given the lack of support for just about every USB device I own, I never considered them "final." I kept the boot camp partition around for just one thing: RASing into work.
Your part of the beta testing was brief but helpful. Revert now to the earlier versions you were using and recover your backup of everything. And thanks for helping.
You are not the only testers here. Some people actually manage to get it working. In fact, I think there are more working users than non-working ones...
What dream? My non-Boot Camp XP install is working just fine. YMMV if you are using Boot Camp partition though.
My FAT32 Bootcamp + Parallels VM works well. Coherence is nice. Not sure it likes "Pausing" the VM then sleeping an MBP though.
