Here's what I did to successfully update to version 4.0.3844.

    Uninstalled Parallels Desktop 4.0.3844.

    Restart

Reinstall previous version using Parallels Desktop 4.0.3810.35132.

Perform update to 4.0.3844 from within Parallels. Instead of downloading .dmg and installing.

    kextstat -l | grep prl

I tried solution 1 - got same problem.
I tried solution 2: - I still have the message "One or more kernel components loaded on your Mac are fro another version of Parallels Desktop" however starting the virtual machine I have normal access and everything works.
I still have the following entries after solution 2:
    $ kextstat -l | grep prl
    69 0 0x8a4000 0x4000 0x3000 com.parallels.kext.prl_usb_connect (4.0 3810.237520) <38 7 6 5 4>
    89 0 0x8a8000 0x3000 0x2000 com.parallels.kext.prl_hid_hook (4.0 3810.237520) <7 6 5 4 2>
    90 0 0x5e7000 0x88000 0x87000 com.parallels.kext.prl_hypervisor (4.0 3810.237520) <12 7 6 5 4 2>
    91 0 0xaa7000 0x5000 0x4000 com.parallels.kext.prl_vnic (4.0 3810.237520) <41 5 4>
    111 0 0x9d462000 0x7000 0x6000 com.parallels.kext.prl_netbridge (4.0 3844.408728) <6 5 4 2>

My big problem the netbridge entry is fixed but the other kernels are still not updated.
    Any help?
    Best Regards

You can try to do a permissions repair before uninstalling/installing.

But the quickest solution is deleting the offending kexts and reinstall Parallels.

The path is /System/Library/Extensions/, maybe it's easier to navigate there in Finder, select them and delete, it will probably ask for your password, good luck!

I'm having the same problem "one or more kernel components...

My plan is to back up the existing folder, uninstall from the DMG I just got and reinstall. Do you think that will work? Should I reboot first?

    Hello,

Please uninstall Parallels using the latest 3844 build. But remember that you need to uninstall both application and application settings while uninstalling Parallels Desktop application.

Then install Parallels desktop build 3844. After installing you will be prompted to create a new virtual machine. Cancel that page and go to File -> Open and choose the appropriate .pvm file in Documents/Parallels.

After that whenever you open up Parallels, you will not receive any error messages.

    Thank you.

I'm confused - what is the difference between uninstall app and settings?

In your post you say to uninstall both the application and the application settings. What's the difference? Won't it do both when I do the uninstall? Do I need to reboot? Delete something in the library? Thanks!

    Hello William,

When you do a normal uninstall, only the application will be removed.
So, by checking the application settings also it will remove all the associated files.

There by you will have a clean reinstall!

And there is no need to delete anything manually. and not required to reboot.
But if after uninstallation, the program prompts you to reboot then you can reboot.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Thank you.

    Adding myself to the list

Still having this error on my machine. Have done everything/all the steps recommended including removing all, reinstalling using 3844, the sudo terminal business, reboots, etc., still getting the kernel error message. Should I go back to an older version? I really, really need Parallels for testing on a daily basis, so I really, really need a solution that works. Thanks!

I have this problem also: I downloaded the latest DMG referenced in this thread, then I uninstalled. I asked to uninstall both application and profile. It did not reboot or request reboot. So I didn't. Then I installed. I still get the message. Here is my output:

I uninstalled Parallels using latest built 3844 (both application and settings) and then reinstalled the parallels (this after rebooting). I still have the same problem:hs$ kextstat -l | grep prl

    93 0 0x5f3000 0x88000 0x87000 com.parallels.kext.prl_hypervisor (4.0 3810.237520) <12 7 6 5 4 2>
    96 0 0xac0000 0x5000 0x4000 com.parallels.kext.prl_vnic (4.0 3810.237520) <39 5 4>

Did it matter than the virtual machine was suspended whilst uninstalling and installing?

Solution worked yesterday, doesn't work today - I'm really frustrated

I uninstalled both app and settings and reinstalled and chose existing PVM file and everything worked fine (finally) yesterday afternoon. I got to the office this morning and I NOW GET THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE AGAIN.

Unless you can tell me to do something else I guess I have to uninstall and reinstall the application EVERY SINGLE DAY until this is fixed. Please help!

Apparently you can uninstall previous versions using the current version uninstaller.

Bopanna, should I try to do what Pablo did to fix this problem?

Uninstall, install the old version, uninstall it and then reinstall the new version?

Why are you thanking anyone for having to do this process. Every time I've attempted to update this this product it's wasted HOURS of my time.
