I've been using Parallels for Mac for several years now and today it started creating a file called ParallelsDesktop -parallels-en_US-4.0.3844.408728.dmg.prlupd-part onto my desktop and it will not let it be trashed. What's going on here? I get very nervous when unknown and/or mysterious files start showing up and I really really don't like DMG files doing this. I need to know what this files is. What's it doing on the desktop. How can I either prevent it from staying on the desktop or get it created elsewhere. Please help ASAP
Hello Beau, The mentioned file may be a broken internet downloaded file. You may safely trash it. If you are not able to trash it, you can try a restart of Mac and then trash it. Also find the file location in the spotlight and trash it. If the file is showing up in the desktop, it has been mounted and needs to be ejected. To eject, you can right click (CTRL+CLICK) and choose eject. Thank you.
This keeps showing up for me every time I use Parallels. The only way to get rid of it is to restart and then trash it. I do not want to restart my mac EVERY TIME I use Parallels just so I can delete a file from my desktop. Is there a more permanent solution to get rid of this file?
Bopanna, Did everything you suggested to do with the following results. 1) the file inquestion is not mounted and can not be 'ejected'. Right clicking on the file does get the sub-menu but it does not have the eject option. 2) The file does not stay trashed, it always comes back when I restart Parallels. Looks like we have an "honist to God" bug here. Jim
I just had this happen today for the first time. Same behavior as described. The thing that was different about today is that Windows did a security update this AM. I am wondering if you guys also did the security update and this started happening after this?
This is due to the update process of Parallels Desktop. There are two ways to get rid of this file. a) Update Parallels Desktop to the latest version. OR b) Go to preferences and uncheck the option "Check for updates". All the best! §
