New Boy Help!! - Using Parellels and HP OEM Windows XP Professional Discs

Can anyone advise me before I do the wrong thing?

I have a new Macbook pro and brought a copy of Parallel for Mac, and a HP OEM copy of windows Xp.

Is there any reason I cannot use the XP and install on the mac from Parallels - as a I am new to Mac, I do not want to upset my new baby.

There's the legal reason, meaning, manufacturer OEM discs are only legal for the machine they ship with. There's teh technical reason, they only come with drivers supporting the manufacturer's hardware.

    Hello Julian,

Windows Operating system cannot be installed on Parallels Desktop using an OEM Installation disc. Windows Operating can be installed using Full version disc.

For more information please click on the below mentioned Parallels knowledge base article.

And this is yet another reason I'm abandoning these forums, as there's total disregard from Parallels staff to people like me that try to help others, Peter's reply is just like I didn't even replied to the topic, totally demotivating.

    Many thanks to you both

I suppose I should have not been such a cheap skate - I brought the HP disc on the Amazon market place, thinking that I would be able to use the OEM version - then I had second thoughts. Thanks - I will see if I can return the disc and then buy a full version.

Specimen - thanks for your thoughts - I will look for your guidance.
