updated OS to Snow Leopard now cant update Parallels

Updated to Snow Leopard, downloaded the updated Parallels but during the installation I am stalled when it asks to suspend or stop Windows XP. It lives inside my VM so I can no longer access Windows XP... previous version of parallels no longer functions. I am guessing that I left the VM suspended and that it wants it to be stopped in order to complete the installation of the Parallels update.
Any suggestions?
I am guessing that I could delete the Parallels completely but if I do that will the update to parallels activate when it no longer can find a previous version?
