I'm starting a new thread on this topic out of frustration. After I upgraded and booted my Windows XP Pro (bootcamp) VM, I tried out the the "maclook" option by going to the "view" menu and checking the "maclook" menu item. I decided that I didn't like the look and feel and wanted to revert back to the windows classic style I had been using. I have done the following: 1. While booted as a VM; attempted to use the standard windows "Display" control panel method to reset to the default windows style (as suggested in a prior thread). The system never finishes the "apply" 2. I have booted in Windows XP directly; and attempted to change the back to the default and the "apply" never finishes. 3. I have attempted another suggestion to startup PD5, right-click on the VM to configure, and checked the "maclook" check box, booted, halted, unchecked it, rebooted (etc) with no change. While I appreciate the artistic effort that went into the "maclook" look and feel. Its not something my aging eyes easily tolerates. I really, really need to get this undone and back to my prior settings. Is there any other way to remove this style from XP? Its really annoying that this cannot be removed while booted in XP directly. Is there something I can mangle in the Windows XP registry perhaps?
1. Please, send a problem report (Help -> Report a Problem...) and post its number here 2. Boot into Winodws, login. Uncheck View -> Use MacLook 3. If nothing happened, send another problem report and post its number here Without this information it will be difficult to help you. p.s. Keep in mind, that user must be in Administrators group to apply or to un-apply MacLook theme
Unable to submit trouble report - need a support # When I go to submit a trouble ticket it wants a support number. So from the "http://www.parallels.com/support/request/" URL, I did the following - Category = "Technical Issues" - Product = "Parallels Desktop" - OS = Mac - Problem Source = "Parallels 5 Free Installation and Upgrade Assistance Issues" Proceed to the next page. There is a field called "Product Support" that is required. I do not have any valid information to place in that field. Does this mean I actually have to pay $$$ for support to get this fixed ? what does one have to do to get a Product Support number?
What I would put into a trouble ticket should that become available. I upgraded to PD5 yesterday. I booted up my BOOTCAMP partition with Win XP Pro SP2 using PD5. I decided to try to the "maclook" view and wen to the "View" menu and selected "Maclook". Since I could not read any of the text in the toolbars of windows, and the close buttons moved from the right to the left (causing issues for disability aids) I needed to remove it. I went to the "View" menu and unselected the "Maclook" menu item. Nothing changed. I logged out and in again. Nothing changed. I followed the directions to reselect the Windows XP default desktop and style. I get a "Please Wait" and nothing changes. I then shut down the VM, shutdown Mac OS (Snow Leopard + current patches) and booted directly in Win XP. I logged in and tried to reselect the Windows XP default desktop and style. I get a "Please Wait" and nothing changes. I shut down Windows XP and rebooted Mac OS (Snow Leopard) and restarted PD5 and picked the BOOTCAMP (WIn XP Pro) VM. - From the "Virtual Machine" window, I right-click on the "Winows XP" VM, and select "configure" In the "Services" pane, the "Maclook" checkbox is *not* checked. - Once the WIndows XP VM is started, the "View" menu shows that the "Maclook" item is *not* checked. But no matter what I do, I cannot undo the "maclook" in my user account. - The user account on Win XP Pro is in the administrator group. - This is only affecting the user account I was logged into when I initially checked the "Maclook" box, my other user accounts are still running their old configuration. - The user account that I use on Mac OS is also an adminstrator account. The really , really bad thing it to not be able to restore the original desktop (or any non-"Maclook" desktop) on the XP side.
KarenR, without problem report it is very difficult to help you. To create a problem report do: 1. Launch Pararallels Desktop 2. Boot into Windows 3. Login 4. Check/Uncheck View -> Use MacLook (you can do it several times) 5. While your VM is active (in foreground), go to menu Help (in menubar) and select "Report a problem..." 6. You will see progress bar and then a new window. There will be a "Send" button on it - push it. After problem report will be sent, you will see a message box with its number. Post this number here, so I can easily find it. Problem report will contain MacLook logs, by investigating them I can understand your problem and to help you.
Problem ID 767992 Changing to the other problem reporting choice did indeed collect data and submit a report without asking for a support number. ID 767992
