When I load Win7, the nice spinning globes of light that eventually morph onto the Win7 logo aren't what I see. Rather, I see the marching progress bar from Vista.It worked fine in the last P5 build 8898 beta, then downgraded to Vista when I upgraded in place to the released, purchased, licensed build 9220 product.

That fixed it, thanks. So, degrading the VM from 2 possible processors to one, and detuning Parallels VMs for speed? Parallels smokes as it is dumbed-down like this, I can't wait until we can go back to two processors and can turn on "Tune for speed".
