    Hi EdsonS,
can you check the behavioiur with this setting applied:
Virtual Machine > Configure... > Options > Shared Folders > disable 'Access Windows folders from Mac' checkbox.
Does Mac OS X crash happen when you run VMs located on Mac's drive (not external drive)?

This isn't applied as I don't like the behaviour from default. The MacOSX crash happens randomly. So I use a mixture of both local and external. It appears to happen while using both. Yesterday's crash was because I need to install parallels to stop machines that I was transferring from the hard drive to VMWare. I stopped my machines and then proceeded to uninstall parallels desktop also.

Within about 30 mins using parallels it crashed again but there were no machines running. I was working on something else... But it had been fine all day with Parallels uninstalled.

Although as you can see from below parallels was not unloaded as I needed to reboot...

Please look at this stop error if it gives any sign?

We will investigate the crash in MacFuse, but as a quick solution I'd recommend to remove MacFuse Kernel Extension..

At the moment macfuse and vmware and my new virtual machines are working fine. I would prefer to use parallels until this is fixed. I have got Tuxera full paid for version of NTFS 3g, and have been speaking to their developers. They have said as far as they can see everything is ok with macfuse, but the combination of using parallels is causing the exception.

I will stay on VMWare for the moment, but because it is a trial version I would very much like this sorted.

    Thanks

    Interesting...

Although if it is MacFuse I can't be the only one running that with Parallels and it causing this random error? Can you please let me know if you find anything of note. I have tried uninstalling parallels and that did bring back some stability to my system. Not crashing as often. In about a week I think it only crashed once so that may be unrelated. I will try and uninstall MacFuse although am I still able to access my NTFS drives through the guest OS?

    Thanks

NTFS is a Microsoft file system for all I know so yes, you should be able to access NTFS drives from the VM (as long as the VM is running a half-way modern version of Windows - NT, XP, and up). All that's needed is that the drives are mounted within the VM.

It seems that your issue is unique... at least nobody else have reported anything like this.

Unfortunately, the feature with InversedSharing (feature that provides transparent access from MacOS to guest's file's) will stop functioning, but as a workaround it is possible to network-share these drives and use it from Mac OS using NetworkSharing.

And nothing to add to Shaddam's post - drives will be accessible inside guest.

Ok then it may actually be drivers that I have installed for my hardware? How can I check I have the latest drivers for my machine?

    Thanks

What OS are you running inside the VM? If you've installed the Parallels tools you should have all the drivers that are needed. Windows 7 has a feature by which looks for the latest drivers out there automatically.

I've uninstalled MacFUSE and have had no problems (but I never had any problems with it either).

I was thinking more on the OSX drivers, could it be a version that has been updated with software or something interfering with my setup? As I had originally my machines on my external NTFS drives. And have since moved them to the local drive although don't want to keep them there want as much space on my mac as poss.

Had been running macfuse with vmware and as I said no problems just from the one glitch. It appears to be a random panic error and not consistent at all with what I am doing when it errors... So not sure how to replicate it.

Ok latest, Parallels has been working for a few hours now. I haven't uninstalled macfuse, but I am solely using the virtual machines located locally on the mac rather than having them running on the ntfs external drives. This appears to be where the problem lies. Now whether it's parallels accessing the external drives or whether it's tuxera and macfuse I am not sure. But it appears this is where the problem lies as the system is stable for now... I will let you know later on in the week if I experience any problems but please if someone else has a similar setup can they put a note on here too and let me know how they are getting on?

    Thanks

Interesting... actually, Parallels uses very rich set of features of underlying FileSystem.. likely fuse cannot stand it when ParallelsVM is located on fused FS.

Me again... I can sort of replicate the freezing that I experienced at the beginning. It appears that if I log in to a virtual machine on an NTFS Drive, then restart and try and run the machine it manages to grind my macbook to halt and just hangs there.

Can someone please test and replicate? Or help at all?

    Thanks

    me too

Mine is crashing too - did you check the temperature of your computer? My GPU diode and CPU both go up to 74 degrees when running parallels and then everything crashes. You might want to try parallels desktop 4 - that was working for me.

Hello Brian, yeah it's not directly due to parallels as when the machines are located on the MacBook it's working correctly and as yesterday I worked on a machine for over 8 hours without a problem.

It seems to be when they are located on an external drive. What I will try is to format the NTFS external drive as a HFS formatted drive and see if it happens there. If it does then I can definitely say it's something to do with external drives. If not then it has to be the way parallels interacts with NTFS drives.

    Parallels Desktop crash

    dear Parallels team,
i am experiencing a problem with PArallels desktop. it simply quits all by itself (after some while of opening it and operating on windows) and relaunches with no error report nor anything.
i am running Windows 7 experimental version on it.
any fixes that you may suggest? this is becoming really frustrating so i'd appreciate your help.
    cheers.

    have you tried....

Lowering the amount of RAM your parallels guest OS uses? Have seen similar behaviour with other apps, but generally it will give a crash report after.
