Recently, I purchased Windows 7 under the $30 Student edition program through Microsoft. when I finally got my install DVD in the mail, the Windows 7 installer rejected my serial number (I started a new machine to install!) When I tried to upgrade from XP, it was also rejected. here is my question... Should I even bother with Windows 7 (since I don't have any access to a copy of Vista 64 bit), or is there a way to fix this issue? (P.S.) in the email I received from Digital River (Microsoft's official Student Sales Provider), they told me to download a 3.5 GB ISO image. Since they have their own download software, I am only able to obtain the ISO image from within Windows XP. this is a problem because the download would take 3-5 days over DSL!
Hi patddfan88, questions regarding Windows serial numbers/activation etc. should be better forwarded to reseller (Digital River) or Microsoft.
Hi patddfan88, is Win 7 license you purchased a full or upgrade version? Have you tried to upgrade from 32-bit or 64-bit Windows XP? Many questions on upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 are covered here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7
