Hi all, am a very new Mac user. Big big driver to buying one was parallels so I can use if for work stuff too. However I am totally lost. I feel a bit of a fool not evening know what to look for when searching the forums and support pages so forgive me if this is a time asked question. Here's what I wanted to do. I use an XP laptop and need to use XP and MS Office products on the Imac, specifically MS Access. I read on the box I can transport the set up across in three easy steps and be up and running. So I: A: Installed parallels on my shiney new iMac. B: Installed Transporter Agent on the XP laptop. C: Migrated XP to the iMac. Now I have a file in a new parallels folder called "xp.hdd". Now what do I do? I assumed I could launch Parallels Desktop and pointed to that file and job done, I'm using XP. When I launch Parallels Desktop I see the "New Virtual Machine Assistant" with the "Select Operating System Source" I get the feeling I need to install XP but I thought I had already done that. Any help gratefully received as this idiot feels totally lost. Kind Regards Dan
exact same problem: new MAC user, used Transport -- hdd? I have the exact same issue. I'm a new MAC user -- ran the Transporter --- got the .hdd file, go into Parallels Desktop and can't figure out how to SEE my new virtual machine that supposedly got created through the migration process. Have you figured out how to move forward yet? I'm assuming this is a simple issue that someone who is a bit more experience could direct us .... please let me know.
Hi Kate, I gave up on the transporter part in the end thinking I was probably taking a load of crap with me I didnt need. I also used the online support to get instructions how to get it working. To be honest I can't recall what they told me to do but I got parallels working and just re installed xp and office. Sorry can't be more help. Dan
I started to do the same thing: I created a brand new Virtual Machine on the Mac and I could load all of my PC programs, BUT we have purchased this software to do the very thing it is NOT ABLE TO DO, apparently, which is to migrate an entire existing Windows computer. I am not getting any error messages and I have not been able to find any support online or in the documentation. I am befuddled as to why Parallels is SILENT on this issue. What are we missing? Can anyone out there give us a simple answer? I don't feel I should have to pay for a solution when the documentation doesn't help at all.
