I'm running 5.0.9310.546799 and things are getting weird. Off Boot Camp XP did what I wanted to do, I'd edit a few word and excel documents, and surf the internet occasionally, nothing special, but it didn't need to be. Just recently though I haven't been able to print, nor have I been able to connect to the internet either. I've reinstalled Parallels, but to no avail; and it's slow too. Also, there are times when the start screen just hangs, I have to quit even before the VM engages and then restart my iMac to get Parallels to work. I've tried the various work-arounds offered in the forums, but the problems persist. The VM sees the connected printer, but if I try to print it doesn't see it; on the Mac side it prints unimpeded. Maybe it's a Mac problem, at about the same time Parallels seemed to get flaky if I tried to restart my Mac - off the Apple menu - it just hangs, I have to force a restart via the power button. And on a restart it doesn't chime. Like I said, it's weird. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hi, could you please start the VM and send a problem report using menu of Parallels Desktop "Help" -> "Report a Problem" and post here its id?
Hi, here is the report ID 3546827, as well as the specific log ID 2010.03.04-17.38.30.099. Hope this helps.
Please ignore my previous message, I misread the logs. Further investigation is required There are two things: 1) please Right-click "My Computer" -> "Manage" -> "Device Manager", unfold the "Network Adapters" and send one more problem report 2) click Start -> Run and execute cmd.exe. Type in the appeared window command "ipconfig /all". Then send one more report
Ok as per your suggestions: First suggestion: ID 3553462, log ID 2010.03.04-22.42.59.454; Second suggestion: ID 3553600, log ID 2010.03.04-22.51.43.634 Hope this helps. Thanks for your efforts by the way.
Hm. In the report 1 I see that Network Adapter is disabled for some reason. You need to enable it by either right-clicking and choosing "Enable" in the Device Manager, or by entering to the NetworkConnections window and enabling it from there
Tried to enable the Network Adaptor, but there are some drivers missing which can only be had via the internet, and I don;t have the internet! Anyway, I generated a report, report ID 3555119; log ID 2010.03.04-23.53.34.684. Should I startup XP via Boot Camp, install the drivers there? Or will I encounter the same problem? Thanks for your help.
Interesting. No, all required drivers already should be installed. In the worst case, you can choose VM -> "Reinstall Parallels Tools" and reinstall tools, Also, please check before reinstalling tools whether the article http://kb.parallels.com/7047 applies to your situation
No doubt the worst case scenario has come to pass: for I have re-installed tools, at least once! Also, the article you cited looked promising, except, I'm running XP, and so ATI PCI Express(3GIO) Filter Driver doesn't exist! I presume that while 5.0 is optimised for Vista and 7, it should still work with XP, right? I vaguely recall purchasing 5.0, and having no problems with it, then unexpectedly Parallels required me to download 5.0 again, and re-intall it again, which I did. My memory is hazy after that, - I use XP very intermittently, so I don't always have to print and just as rarely do I surf. So I can't really say whether these problems began after the latest re-intall of 5.0.
I wonder what error is shown if double-click on failed network device in DeviceManager.. I'd suggest to create a support ticket at http://www.parallels.com/support/request/ Let me know via private message if you have troubles creating a support ticket (post in it your email-address) Likely, it was a new build of Parallels Desktop (with some issues fixed)
Lastest build has solved all my problems. Hi, just thought I'd drop a note to say that the latest build (5.0.9344.558741) of Parallels has solved all my problems; and it's faster too, a lot faster. By the way thanks for all your help.
