I've installed Desktop 5 on my Mac computer and I'm running Windows XP Professional on my Virtual Machine. I have a commercial Embroidery Machine that is controlled by plugging in an ethernet cable to my computer. I've loaded the machine's software in Windows XP Pro. Normally I would open the software, then turn on my machine. I can then control my machine through my computer through the ethernet connection. However after I open my software and turn on the machine, nothing happens and I cannot see my machine.

The ethernet cable is fine because I can unplug it from my Mac and plug it into my old Toshiba computer and it works fine.

So I need to know how to make the Virtual Machine read the Ethernet Plug

Have you installed the Parallels Tools? There should be a notice on the status bar about installing them. After that cable-status can be read at Virt.Machine side

I think I have because when I have the Parallels Tool Bar activated and Click on Virtual Machines, it gives me the option to "Reinstall Parallels Tools". I don't have a problem connecting to any USB slots.

I suspect that you need to try Bridged Networking (likely you need to choose something like "Built-In Ethernet Adapter", because default probably will not work).. but unfortunately without beeing close to your machine it is hard to provide precise steps on how exactly it is possible to bring it to work -(
