After upgrading Parallels from version 4 to version 5, I decided to upgrade the Parallels Tools in my CentOS 5.5 virtual machine. BIG MISTAKE. X11 won't start any more; instead, I get the following in Xorg.0.log:

(II) Module prlvideo: vendor ="Parallels Inc."
compiled for 7.2.0, modulde version 2.0.0
(EE) module ABI minor version (1) is newer than the server's version (0)

This is, of course, because the server is version 7.1.1. Why is the parallels tools updater installing X11 drivers for the wrong X server version, and how do I fix this?

    works for me

Not sure if it helps but I did a fresh install of Centos 5.5 in a Parallels VM and it works fine.

I’m sorry for the troubles you’re having. To solve the problem as quickly as possible I recommend submitting a support ticket with the Parallels team http://www.parallels.com/support/.
