I'm trying to set up boot camp as my VM, and I found this http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/23112.htm, but when I get to that point, I don't have the same options. See attached screenshot to see what I get. I'm not sure which IDE position to select for my boot camp install, and no matter which one I select, nothing else comes up below it. (I have four options, IDE 0:0, IDE 0:1, IDE 1:0, and IDE 1:1). So I'm reticent to move past this point. Any help would be appreciated.

Any word on this? I am in the same position. I am unsure about the different IDE position selections as well.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Same

    Same Problem

My Bootcamp volume is disk0s3, /PCI0@0/SATA@1F,2/PRT2@2/PMP@0/@0:3 according to Disk Utility or according to df it is /dev/disk0s3.

How does that relate to IDE 0:0, IDE 0:1 IDE 1:0 IDE 1:1?

    I'm going to guess it's 1:1, because that's a binary 3...

Hm after lots of parallels preparation, looks like I guessed wrong "No boot device is available"

My understanding is that for a vm the IDE 0:0 is always the boot disk. I have always used this if given a choice. (Sometimes the vm creator seems to make this choice for itself.)

If your Bootcamp partition is on the physical hard drive specified, it should be "mapped" to IDE 0:0. As I understand it, by specifying IDE 0:0 you are specifying to the vm where the mbr is. ie IDE 0:0 = Bootcamp partition disk containing os to load. vm seems to always want its first dd to be 0:0. Others added later get higher IDE numbers.

I've never had any problems with IDE 0:0, but obviously, if IDE 0:0 doesn't work for you there must be something else mucked up. Hopefully a PD4Mac guru will respond to a negative report.

Thanks. When I'm back at my machine next week I will try it!
