I recently purchased a new iMac running Snow Leopard and was using Virtual PC 6.1.1 on a PowerMac G4. VPC won't run on new Mac so I called Parallels support to verify that I could convert VPC VM to Parallels and was assured that I could. When the program gets to the configuration stage it stalls on Step 1, for hours, and doesn't move. Can I convert VPC 6.1.1 to Desktop 6? Is there anything I can do to prepare VPC machine for conversion? If I can't, I am stuck with Parallels as Best Buy won't return opened software. PLEASE HELP!!
Can you post a screen shot? You can try pressing Control-Option-Command-R to break into manual mode to see what Parallels is doing (I don't know if this key combination applies to Virtual PC conversion or just to Windows installing).
Problem Solved!!! After spending almost 2 hours on the phone with Support, it was determined that Virtual PC had installed some tools - Virtual PC Additions - that needed to be uninstalled from the VM before being converted by Parallels Desktop. Once this was done, conversion and configuration went smoothly. I now have Windows XP running in coherence with all my files and programs running much faster than I would have ever imagined. So hats off to Parallels Support for their perseverance!!!
Removing Tools There was something on one of the Virtual PC menus for Uninstall Additions. Once this was run the database converted quickly.
