Hi I've installed Parallels 6 and I have one problem which is that although I have the option set for my Windows XP virtual machine not to use Time Machine for back up, it does. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how to stop Parallels 6 from using Time Machine to back up the virtual machine?
Hi, I've the same problem with my Windows 7 virtual machine. Option not to use Time Machine is set but this has no effect. Until now everything I tried failed.
My problem turned out to be a mistake of mine. There is a dialogue box which appears telling you that the VM is going to run more slowly because a Time Machine backup is taking place. This dialogue appears regardless of whether a backup of the VM is happening. It has nothing to do with that. You can check that dialogue so that you won't see it again of course.
Thanks Patrick, Mine is a more serious problem: in every Time Machinebackupfile the complete Windows7.pvm file is present. So on my external backup drive Time machine backups nearly 1 year old are gone, it doesn't cover more than the last 2 weeks now.
I had a support ticket discussion about this with the Parallels people before I realised it was in my case a silly error of mine. Anyway one of their suggestions might work for your real problem. In Time Machine Preferences add your Windows7.pvm file to the list of items for Time Machine to exclude from backups.
