I used a trial of Parallels 6 and installed Ubuntu 10.04, installed parallels tools.

I have no sound in Ubuntu 10.04 (sometimes some weird sounding noise).

Everything works perfect with parallels 5.

I hope this gets resolved. I want version 6 but not without sound in Ubuntu.

Sound Problem In Ubuntu 10.04 Guest (Parallels 6)

I'm having the identical problem. The sound initially works, but quickly melts to mere static after a few seconds. I've re-installed the tools and drivers w/o success. Unfortunately, I've had to roll my VM work back to VirtualBox until this gets resolved.

    Possible Solutions (works for me)

I too was experiencing OK sound for a little bit (30 seconds or so) but then static would grow and grow to the point where the sound was nothing but static. The following seems to have done the trick for me running Ubuntu 10.10 LTS in Parallels 6 on a MacBook Air:

In the Ubuntu VM Go to sound preferences (right/control click the speaker icon)
    Go to the Hardware Tab
Towards the bottom of this tab is 'Profile'
    Select 'Analog Surround 5.0 Output'

This instantly cleared up the issue for me. I don't have a 5.0 sound system just the standard Mac speaker(s).

In addition I have raised the sound volume of the VM to full and then use my Mac volume to control the output level.

    Hope this helps.
