I'm at the office so I'm not able to test it out. Does it resolve the kernel panic issues?

I've been getting Kernel Panics on my late-2010 MacBook Air (2.13 GHz, 4GB) (about 10 in four months, and 3 in the last two weeks) so over the weekend I did a clean install of OS X (an archive and install didn't fix the issue), and decided just to install 11828 rather than 11992. Today I see that 11994 is available and am wondering if it's worth installing.

Ugh, I just had another kernel panic this morning after installing 11994 last night. I had 11828 for only 2 days (no panics), so it wasn't long enough to reach a conclusion as to whether it is Parallels causing them.

11994 is to fix the corruption and crashing of the VMs, not the host OS. The host kernel panics are a separate issue. I'd stick with 11828 for now, if that's working for you.

Thanks. Are the host kernel panics another known issue? I've opened up a ticket and sent my kernel panic reports to Parallels (all under 11992 or 11994). Perhaps I'll revert to 11828 tonight and see if it works.

Unfortunately, I don't know specific steps to replicate a panic, and when I look at the reports for the panics I saw under 11992 (all in the last 3 weeks) I see the following:

    panic(cpu 1 caller 0x28f16b): pmap_flush_tlbs() timeout: " "cpu(s) failing to respond to interrupts, pmap=0x84b7a0

    panic(cpu 1 caller 0x2aab55): Kernel trap at 0x00295961, type 14=page fault,

    panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2aab55): Kernel trap at 0x00292c37, type 14=page fault

    panic(cpu 1 caller 0x2aab55): Kernel trap at 0x002314d6, type 14=page fault

The one I got today under 11994 was as follows:

    panic(cpu 1 caller 0x35d346): "udp_input: bad so back ptr inp=0x73f46e0\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.9.26/bsd/netinet/udp_usrreq.c:407 Backtrace (CPU 1)

I looked back and there were two panics in December under 11828. I uninstalled VMWare Fusion in mid-December and that seemed to help (I got none for 6 weeks).

    panic(cpu 1 caller 0x29415e): "pmap_pv_remove(0x9e9d7b4,0x4f005000,0x9588b, 0x9588b024): null

    panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2aab55): Kernel trap at 0x57bed1d7, type 14=page fault, registers:

Any ideas? I'm getting different kind of panics. Note that every time the Genius Bar runs a test, the hardware checks out fine. I did an archive and install or OS X last week, and over the weekend I did a clean install of OS X. I copied over my Applications and Library folders but did NOT copy over anything related to Parallels. I "clean installed" 11828, but then when 11994 came out yesterday I gave it a shot. Can I just reinstall 11828 over it, or do I need to remove it first? Is there a way to do so without another clean install of OS X?

When jumping more than one version, or going backwards, here's what I do:

Use the uninstaller that came with the version that's currently installed, reboot, install newer/older version, reboot.

They did say in another thread that the kernel panics are a known issue as well, but didn't say anything about an ETA for a fix or a work-around. I've not experienced them, thankfully, so I haven't done any troubleshooting along those lines.

I did have two VM's trashed from the corruption that 11992 caused. The corruption persisted even when I rolled back to 11828, and I had to reinstall the OS from scratch and restore the files from backups. grrrr... Anyway, have you tried a fresh VM with 11994? I don't know if that would help or not, since I don't really know what's causing the panics. If you don't want to go to that trouble, it sounds like 11828 will probably be the best bet for now until they can get another release out. But if it turns out that 11992 hosed your VM, you'll eventually have to bite the bullet and fix it.

Thanks. I use my Boot Camp partition as a VM so perhaps what I'll just do is uninstall Parallels Desktop from the Mac, and Parallels Tools from Windows and try running it purely in Boot Camp for now. If the kernel panics subside, I'll at least have isolated the issue to Parallels and not the MacBook Air itself. If not, then I'll get the MacBook Air checked out again.

Parallels support suggested I reconfigure my VM to use 1 CPU core. So far, it's been 9 days since the last kernel panic. Hopefully this fixes it, but I've been here before (it went 6 weeks without a panic until late January when they started up again). We'll see.

Try configuring Parallels to use 1 CPU instead of 2 and see if that helps. That's what they told me to do, and so far, it seems to be working. Performance still seems decent. Hopefully this changes once the Sandy Bridge chips make their way to the MacBook Air and I have 4 virtual cores to use instead of 2.

With one CPU it's working, right now... but it's really slow... with parallel 5.0 it's faster... so the version 6 is not usefull right now
