I am having great difficulty in enabling printing to work across both parallels and mac os in one setting, while it works fine on another. Both have most recent build of parallels, 6.0.11992
Setting one: Mac OS10.6.5 Intel core 2 duo; Windows XP home; canon mp610; USB; works perfectly sharing the printer seamlessly using the 'use my mac' driver
Setting two: Mac OS10.6.5 Intel core 2 duo (same model); Windows XP enterprise; canon mp990; USB; once used in parallels the printer seems to be captured by parallels making it unavailable to mac os until parallels is closed, or worse, permanently offline.
Sometimes closing down parallels releases the printer to mac, but if printing is attempted in parallels, the printer goes offline. The online/offline option when I right click the printer in windows does not work. The only way it can be brought online again is to uninstall then reinstall it under system preferences in mac os. However I can only do this if windows is suspended. Otherwise the mac cannot 'see' the printer.
I'm trying to use only the recommended 'use my mac' driver, but windows keeps defaulting to the printer install wizard, and the USB device icon lights up intermittently as windows searches for the printer.
I have also tried via bonjour for windows but with no success there either
I imported the VM from a real machine bringing across all the network connections, which originally included the windows canon 990 driver, which I have now uninstalled. However there still seems to be a trace of it somewhere.
As a mac person I am at a loss as to what to do.

I have sorted it out. For the record I needed to disable the plug and play element of windows using the control panel;
Two steps
1. Universal plug and play: admin tools/Services/UPNP/startup/ disabled in the standard tab
2. Disable SSDP and UPNP services in the extended tab
An alternative may be to set the above three panels to manual
