Everything seems to be running smooth but then it wont load the cd and a curtain appears to come down on the monitor. any suggestions as to why this is happening is appreciated. I am sooo fed up with my pc and must get this to work as quickly as possible. I am an accountant filing tax returns and you can see my dilemma. thanks in advance. Quick responses can be emailed to me directly to: rio@tns.net

Curtain appears to come down? Does it ask you to restart your computer?

The curtain coming down is probably a kernel panic. It sounds as if you have a core 2 duo processor and a Parallels build earlier than 1970. If you had posted your Mac configuration and Parallels build, less guessing would be required.

I'm having the same problem. After successfully running Parallels on an older MacBook Pro, I purchased a new 2.33 GHz one and used the Mac Firewire transfer process to bring everything over from one to the other. When I tried to launch Parallels, it reported it could not find the program. I reinstalled Parallels but can't lanch a VM. So, I tried to reinstall Windows XP and get the "window shade" kernel panic and told I must reboot my Mac. I also get the shade when simply trying to launch a VM. I've written to Parallels tech support. My version of Parallels is Build 1848.2. My version of OS X is 10.4.8. Any suggestions?

Thanks. I'll give that a shot. Frankly, it didn't occur to me that "Build 1970" would be a later upgrade to my current "Build 1848.2" I assumed that the higher the number, the newer the build. DCS

Thanks very much to "Palter" for the tip to "upgrade" to Build 1970. It worked like a charm. Again, while I kept reading suggestions to go to 1970, I figured my 1848 was a later version. In any event, all's well. DCS

1970 is a larger number than 1848, but the most recent build available is 3150. 1970 is the most recent "Gold" release meaning it is the most recent production release and has full technical support. All newer releases than 1970 are either beta or release candidates.
