I have a minimalistic, yet very specific, use for Windows in my line of work, which is why I stuck to VirtualPC*6 until a year ago, when a new MacBook Pro (2010 Intel Core 2 Duo) and its Intel processors led me to purchase Parallels*5. For that same reason, I haven't found it worth while to update my old version of Windows XP, nor to upgrade to Parallels*6. v.5 has been running fine on that machine since. On a brand new MacBook Pro*Intel Core*i7, after installing Parallels, I got a kernel panic as soon as I tried to launch my existing Windows disk image. After a couple more attempts, I tried to create a new disk image from scrap. This went fine... until it tried to install XP from the CD: same kernel panic.

In the latter case, there was a bit of readable DOS command line text, the last one being (from memory, I'm not a fan of creating kernel crashes) something like: "SCSI controller not found". Could this be related to the fact that the new MBPro has a SSD harddisk?

    What to do?

    Update 1

Patiently waiting for a reply a reply... I've tried the workaround suggested on this thread:

    http://kb.parallels.com/en/9697/

It looked like it was going to work, but half-way through the installation of Windows (instead of immediately), I got the ritual kernel crash.
