I have an iMac with OS X 10.6 and Parallels 6. I have installed Windows 7 64 bit professional on the VM. When in Win 7, I can see all the computers on the Workgroup network, however I cannot connect to any of the shared files. The server is running Windows Server 2003 and other machines Windows XP. I have set permissions on the Server to allow administrator privileges from the Win 7 VM. I have turned off the firewall on Win 7 VM and enabled file sharing in the VM. When I try to connect, I get the error message that "\\SERVER is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The endpoint format is invalid." My Parallels setting for the network is set to Bridged. I have tried setting it to Shared and it will not even recognize the network when set to Shared. Any suggestions as to how to correct this problem and be able to connect to the shared server files?
The problem lies with the way Windows 7 connects to the remote computer. In Windows XP, you could simply choose "connect as" and use the appropriate credentials. With Windows 7, you need to do the following: Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Your Credentials > Add Windows Credentials > now input the computer name (e.g. Server), the user name and password. You can now connect to the computer's folders. This works with Parallels 6. Use Bridged mode in networking.
