About to install Parallels on a new MacBook Pro and pondering how to change our normal Mac-side backup scripts. It would be great if there was some way of having the home directory for the WinXP account on a different virtual hard disk than the main install of WinXP. (Then changes to user cache's etc shouldn't change the larger virtual HD file and trigger the daily incremental backup scripts from the Mac side.) I know how to move the WinXP "My Documents" folder, but the caches and other files are stored one level up in the user's home directory. Is this possible under WinXP? (If so, I can probably figure out how to do it under Parallels.)
Yes, it's possible but it's not easy. As I remember, you have to manually edit the registry. (I did this several years ago on my PC.) There's a Microsoft knowledge base article that explains how to do it.
