Kernel Panics in beta4 Hello guys, We've made a serious work with recent three betas. Thanks to everyone experiencing kernel panics and sending them to us. They really do help us progress, without you there wouldn't be any beta4 possible. We do expect beta4 to be much more stable than previous betas. And we badly need your help in hunting for kernel panics left. If you experience one, please share the logs with us. You'll only need to 1. Open Applications->Utilities->System Profiler. In System Profiler find Software->Logs->panic.log. This is the file containing necessary technical information about the panic. 2. And send us the log file as well as the desription of what you were doing that time. Any special actions? Any other info you think might be important? Please send this staff to reports@parallels.com. Use this mailbox for kernel panic reports only please.
I actually had my first kernal panic with parallels after upgading to beta4. I emailed in the panic log. It happened while XP was downloading and installing updates via automatic updates. This was a VM that I'd built under previous betas, I wonder if there's any reason why beta4 might work better if you build a fresh vm under it? Anyway, I've done that, built a fresh VM, this time installing Win2K. so far Windows has installed all updates just fine, AVG antivirus, and windows defender from MS. We'll see how this one runs.
I allowed my screen save to go in while at dinner and came back to a spinning beachball over a black screen. The VM was active at the time. Only a power button would seem to get it back.
I got the following panic when pressing the "play"/start button on a Windows XP guest: ********* Tue Apr 18 23:00:23 2006 panic(cpu 1 caller 0x0019CAEF): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 1, Type 14=page fault), registers: CR0: 0x8001003b, CR2: 0x00000000, CR3: 0x01664000, CR4: 0x000026a0 EAX: 0x00000000, EBX: 0x03f8f500, ECX: 0x03f8f500, EDX: 0x00000040 ESP: 0x00000000, EBP: 0x258c3f14, ESI: 0x038d8214, EDI: 0x03f8f514 EFL: 0x00010012, EIP: 0x00190841, CS: 0x00000008, DS: 0x258c0010 Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x258c3d94 : 0x128b5e (0x3bbeb8 0x258c3db8 0x131bbc 0x0) 0x258c3dd4 : 0x19caef (0x3c1340 0x1 0xe 0x3c10f8) 0x258c3e84 : 0x197b53 (0x258c3e98 0x258c3f14 0x190841 0x190048) 0x258c3e90 : 0x190841 (0x190048 0x10 0x10 0x258c0010) 0x258c3f14 : 0x190917 (0x15ed7 0x40 0x258c3f34 0x194cec) 0x258c3f34 : 0x178e6f (0x15ed7 0x1 0x12c 0xf4240) 0x258c3fb4 : 0x179102 (0x0 0x1 0x4c496e4 0x4a1000) 0x258c3fd4 : 0x197a21 (0x0 0x0 0x4461f8 0x3f8f500) Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0x0 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 8.6.1: Tue Mar 7 16:55:45 PST 2006; root:xnu-792.9.22.obj~1/RELEASE_I386
Actually, the panic I just described happened at about the time XP tries to switch from the startup screen with the animating bar to the resolution the system is configured for.
Tonight I had my first ever kernel panic with any version of PW (currently running Beta 4) at virtually the exact same time of the boot process as you did. I'm running Win2K SP4 as the guest OS. I've e-mailed the panic.log file to the address specified above by Tim.
During install of XP Pro ( via iso image ) paused VM while I went to dinner - came back with apple warning box to reset... My mini Core Solo spontaneously rebooted (didn't even show the "you must reboot your computer" kernel panic) last night when I tried to suspend a Win98SE installation with Beta 4. I don't have the computer with me but I will send in the log if it exists.
Here's another Panic for you with Beta 4 Panic details below. All that I was doing was rebooting Windows XP after running the Windows Update. Hi I got a Panic-Log several times (since Beta4 - never before!!) Additionally i got freezes of the whole system after some time of parallels usage. its not important what i do. i also got freezes (without any message) if i run parallels without running a VM. At this time i only have a W2K-Prof-machine installed. i couldnt say exactly, but it seems that my system reezes within several minutes (no not after 1 minute). I than have to switch off the whole mac und have to do a new start. One time the mac booted 3 times before he gave me the login-screen. I have a macbookPro with 2GB of Ram (i checked the ram with memtest - its ok). OSX newest version (german). I hope this helps. regards Joerg ---------- panic.log: Beschreibung: Panic-Protokoll (Systemabstürze) Größe: 2.99 KB Zuletzt geändert: 19.04.06 17:56 Ort: /Library/Logs/panic.log Letzte Einträge: Sat Apr 8 18:37:26 2006 Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x2562bed4 : 0x3c2760eb (0x41f1c00 0x0 0x0 0x0) 0x2562bf34 : 0x3c276149 (0x41f1c00 0x1 0xffffffff 0x0) 0x2562bf84 : 0x13d683 (0x41f1c00 0x41f1cd4 0x0 0x0) 0x2562bfd4 : 0x197a21 (0x0 0x0 0x5597920 0x49f000) Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0x0 Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.driver.AppleUSBTrackpad(1.4.0b3)@0x3c266000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily(2.4.0)@0x3b821000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOHIDFamily(1.4.6)@0x35842000 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 8.5.2: Mon Feb 13 16:31:48 PST 2006; root:xnu-792.8.37.obj~1/RELEASE_I386 panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0019C424): Panic double fault (CPU:0, code:0x8, trace_trap:0x0),registers: CR0: 0x8001003b, CR2: 0x25637f0d, CR3: 0x0162a000, CR4: 0x000006e0 EAX: 0x73b3bb80, EBX: 0x00000000, ECX: 0x00000100, EDX: 0x73b3bb80 ESP: 0x25637f11, EBP: 0x2562bed4, ESI: 0x08c8f2b7, EDI: 0x00000000 EFL: 0x00010206, EIP: 0x00000000 Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x423f0c : 0x128b5e (0x3bb0bc 0x423f30 0x131bbc 0x0) 0x423f4c : 0x19c424 (0x3c0398 0x0 0x8 0x0) 0x423fec : 0x1983fb (0x8 0x0 0x0 0x1630000) Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0x0 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 8.5.2: Mon Feb 13 16:31:48 PST 2006; root:xnu-792.8.37.obj~1/RELEASE_I386 ********* Wed Apr 19 17:56:07 2006 Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x24db80c4 : 0x197b42 (0x24db80d0 0x3850048 0x385001c 0x384001c) 0x24db818c : 0x197b42 (0x24db8198 0x3850048 0x385001c 0x385001c) 0x24db8254 : 0x197b42 (0x24db8260 0x3850048 0x385001c 0x385001c) 0x24db831c : 0x197b42 (0x24db8328 0x3850048 0x385001c 0x385001c) 0x24db83e4 : 0x197b42 (0x24db83f0 0x3850048 0x385001c 0x385001c) 0x24db84ac : 0x197b42 (0x24db84b8 0x3850048 0x385001c 0x385001c) 0x24db8574 : 0x197b42 (0x24db8580 0x3850048 0x384001c 0x385001c) 0x24db863c : 0x197b42 (0x24db8648 0x3850048 0x385001c 0x385001c) 0x24db8704 : 0x197b42 (0x24db8710 0x3850048 0x385001c 0x385001c) 0x24db87cc : 0x197b42 (0x24db87d8 0x3840048 0x384001c 0x385001c) Backtrace continues... To follow up on this, no panic.log file was created, presumably because the machine rebooted spontaneously, rather than having the traditional "kernel panic" screen. It hasn't happened since.
Vt-x still won't hardware enable. I have yet to install any OS but I have a VM created. I had the VM open and put my mac to sleep via the Apple Menu. ***** Intel Mini Core Duo Hardware Overview: Machine Name: Mac mini Machine Model: Macmini1,1 CPU Type: Intel Core Duo Number Of Cores: 2 CPU Speed: 1.66 GHz L2 Cache (shared): 2 MB Memory: 2 GB Bus Speed: 667 MHz Boot ROM Version: MM11.0055.B02 Serial Number: YM608SHMU36 SMC Version: 1.3f2 panic.log: Description: Panic (system crashes) log Size: 1.57 KB Last Modified: 4/21/06 8:01 AM Location: /Library/Logs/panic.log Recent Contents: Fri Apr 21 08:01:36 2006 panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0019CAEF): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 0, Type 14=page fault), registers: CR0: 0x8001003b, CR2: 0x00000000, CR3: 0x00cdf000, CR4: 0x000006e0 EAX: 0x00000000, EBX: 0xc0045408, ECX: 0x3d30978e, EDX: 0x00000000 ESP: 0x00000000, EBP: 0x24c8bd38, ESI: 0x24c8bed8, EDI: 0x058c07d0 EFL: 0x00010246, EIP: 0x3d30b077, CS: 0x00000014, DS: 0x0000001c Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x24c8bbf0 : 0x128b5e (0x3bbeb8 0x24c8bc14 0x131bbc 0x0) 0x24c8bc30 : 0x19caef (0x3c1340 0x0 0xe 0x3c10f8) 0x24c8bce0 : 0x197b53 (0x24c8bcf4 0x24c8bd38 0x3d30b077 0x24c80048) 0x24c8bcec : 0x3d30b077 (0x24c80048 0x54001c 0x5a1001c 0x1c) 0x24c8bd38 : 0x3d3097eb (0x3a52b30 0x24c8bd64 0x50b3b5 0x374df90) 0x24c8bd68 : 0x3d3085b4 (0x0 0xc0045408 0x24c8bed8 0x0) 0x24c8bd88 : 0x1e3d72 (0xb000000 0xc0045408 0x24c8bed8 0x81) 0x24c8bdc8 : 0x1dac2e (0x24c8bdf0 0x297 0x24c8be28 0x1c4423) 0x24c8be28 : 0x1d29c3 (0x3d13318 0xc0045408 0x24c8bed8 0x81) 0x24c8be78 : 0x32550f (0x5960ed0 0xc0045408 0x24c8bed8 0x58c07d0) 0x24c8bea8 : 0x343849 (0x5960ed0 0xc0045408 0x24c8bed8 0x58c07d0) 0x24c8bf78 : 0x36d8e4 (0x58c07d0 0x4109c24 0x4109c68 0x0) 0x24c8bfd8 : 0x197e7e (0x5380ef0 0x5380ef0 0x24c8bcf4 0x24c8bc64) No mapping exists for frame pointer Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0xb03a3888 Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies): com.parallels.kext.hypervisor(2.1)@0x3d307000 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 8.6.1: Tue Mar 7 16:55:45 PST 2006; root:xnu-792.9.22.obj~1/RELEASE_I386 *********
I too just experienced a spontaneious reboot. I had b4 running when I plugged in an ethernet cable to my MBP for the first time in weeks. Next thing I know, OS X is rebooting. What log could I send to be helpful?
1st Kernel Panic I could feel things were starting to get unstable as Safari would not launch anymore. After a while, say 10mn, I then got the darkened screen inviting me to reset the machine. Here is the log: panic(cpu 1 caller 0x0019CAEF): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 1, Type 14=page fault), registers: CR0: 0x8001003b, CR2: 0xfa76133b, CR3: 0x00d57000, CR4: 0x000006a0 EAX: 0xfa761333, EBX: 0xfa761333, ECX: 0xfa761333, EDX: 0xd53a6ad9 ESP: 0xfa76133b, EBP: 0x13e5396c, ESI: 0x13e53ee8, EDI: 0x298fd018 EFL: 0x00010286, EIP: 0x008dc06e, CS: 0x00000014, DS: 0x13e5001c Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x13e5380c : 0x128b5e (0x3bbeb8 0x13e53830 0x131bbc 0x0) 0x13e5384c : 0x19caef (0x3c1340 0x1 0xe 0x3c10f8) 0x13e538fc : 0x197b53 (0x13e53910 0x13e5396c 0x8dc06e 0x13e50048) 0x13e53908 : 0x8dc06e (0x13e50048 0x19001c 0x6d62001c 0x13e5001c) 0x13e5396c : 0x8de45d (0xfa761333 0x13e53ac8 0x13e53990 0x6d626572) 0x13e5398c : 0x2a0ce127 (0xd53a6ad9 0xfa761333 0x3307f84 0x124ed004) 0x13e53ac8 : 0x8dcb45 (0x133e16d0 0x0 0x0 0x140774) 0x13e53b38 : 0x8dcd9a (0x3307f84 0x13e53ed8 0x13e53b58 0x3581110) 0x13e53bf8 : 0x8dd110 (0x3307f84 0x13e53ed8 0x18 0x198b25) 0x13e53d68 : 0x8db5b4 (0x3307f84 0xc0185401 0x13e53ed8 0x198b25) 0x13e53d88 : 0x1e3d72 (0xd000000 0xc0185401 0x13e53ed8 0x81) 0x13e53dc8 : 0x1dac2e (0x13e53df0 0x297 0x13e53e28 0x1c4423) 0x13e53e28 : 0x1d29c3 (0x2b8b6b4 0xc0185401 0x13e53ed8 0x81) 0x13e53e78 : 0x32550f (0x2b33440 0xc0185401 0x13e53ed8 0x29279c4) 0x13e53ea8 : 0x343849 (0x2b33440 0xc0185401 0x13e53ed8 0x29279c4) 0x13e53f78 : 0x36d8e4 (0x29279c4 0x33291bc 0x3329200 0x0) Backtrace continues... Kernel Panic I have had several kernel panics which force me to reboot. They sometimes occur when I have PW running without a guest operating system running. I had wireless networking with beta 3 but lost it with beta 4. My Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard work fine with the guest OS's I have tried XP, Fedora, and Fox OS's. No network success with the linux oS's yet Macbook Pro 2.0GHz 1GB RAM

Killed Spotlight Well I had a Kernel panic a week ago with Beta 4, and the worst thing is that it killed Spotlight, as in Spotlight wouldn't do any searching anymore, I've even reindexed spotlight to no avail
I also had a sudden reboot while surfing the web in OS X and Windows XP (om a VM) being in the boot phase where I guess it tries to establish the network conection to my OS X share (typical boot delay). My guess is that the spontaneous reboots have something to do with networking. I have no panic log. My Machine is a 17" iMac on OS X 10.4.6.
