    Hi, simple question really.

When I assign a certain amount of system ram to be used for the windows virtual machine, is that ram unavailable to the macOS even when parallels is not running? And when it is running does it only take what ram it needs, like the HD, or is the whole thing taken.

For example, I have 2gb of ram on my macbook pro. I have assigned 512mb to parallels/windows.
Does this mean I have 1.5gb of ram available for macOS when parallels is running? Do I still have use of the whole 2gb when it's off?

And is 512 the max. allocation to windows? If it doesn't steal the ram at all times I'd like to increase that.

    Thanks for any clarification,

    Rob

when parallels is off, the ammount of memory your computer has goes back to normal.

additionally, you can monitor the ammount of memory you have ith the activity monitor (Accessories ->Utilities ->Activity Monitor)
