I've got two copies of XP - a Pro and a Home upgrade. I've been running the Pro on my Mac Pro for a while, with no problems; installation was a cinch. I just bought my wife a new iMac, and I want to install the Home on her computer. I have tried creating a new installation both on the iMac and on my Mac Pro, but the XP installer starts working, then stops; the first time it said there were 37 minutes left, and was about halfway through the process; the second time, it says 35 minutes, about the same amount of the installation done. Meanwhile, Parallels is using up plenty of CPU, but it's not doing anything. Has anyone seen this? It looks like it's frozen, and it's not specific to the iMac, since the same thing is happening on the Mac Pro. BTW, the Paralles app isn't frozen; I can stop it and relaunch the VM, but the installation just doesn't go very far. Kirk
OK, it's gotten a bit further in the installation process, but keeps looping back to the beginning - this is clearly an XP problem, but I can't figure out how to get this damned thing to install... And they want people to be honest and use legal software... Kirk
Well, it's not working with XP Pro either. Could there be something long with the latest release of Parallels? I did my first installation with the previous release... Kirk
XP Home install stalls I also have this problem all of the time with build 3186. I finally managed to nurse an install through - not sure how. Just trying things to keep the CD ROM drive running. Now due to a crash of my XP system which corrupted the HDD - I am doing it again Did you solve your problem?
Yes, I was finally able to get it installed. I explain how here: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070312134243563 There's clearly a bug somewhere; the memory increase helped, but it wasn't the only thing. Given the number of times I had to try to install, it was more likely luck. Kirk
