Hi, I have a MacBook Pro with 2Gb of Ram. Whenever I start Parallels 1970 with an XP client machine (512Mb Ram assigned), WindowServer process goes up from 22Mb to 178Mb. Also kernel_task process goes up from 62 to 112Mb. The problem is I end up with some 20Mb of free memory (having only Parallels, Mail and Browser active), which leads for serious VM swapping to disk. Any suggestions? TIA, Albert
Free memory has absolutely nothing to do with swapping in OSX. You real amount of free memory in activity monitor is free + inactive. In fact, in OSX it is BAD when you have large amounts of free memory. Because that means you have memory your paid for but aren't using. I have same machine as you and I have my VM set to 256M. But I runs tons of intensive OSX apps, including Entourage (Rosetta - uggh), Eclipse, JBoss, Oracle SQL Developer, Adium, and on adn on. And I have very, very little swapping. Are you certain you're getting swapping? What are your page in / out's like?
Thanks for your reply. I've reinstalled Parallels and it seems the problem is gone Seems I had something left from an old beta, but not sure. Anyway everything's working so far Thanks again.
