Hi, I have a new iMac which has replaced an aging Windows XP pro machine on my home network. The outgoing XP machine hosted two shared printers for the other windows machines on the network. Before upgrading to Lion, I was able to connect directly to the mac shared printers, but Lion seems to have squashed that. I figured that since I installed Parallels with XP Pro, I should theoretically be able to reach shared resources on the VM. This is where it gets strange...

I cannot connect to the Windows VM network name, which I usually do by opening an explorer windows and typing in \\pcname. I have shared a folder and a shared printer on the VM, but I cannot find it with a windows computer. I thought maybe I could connect to it by IP address, but the address is 10.211.55.3 and gateway is .1 (not part of my standard 192.168.0.x addressing scheme, and therefore beyond my basic networking comprehension). The VM connects to the internet no problem.

I experimented going the other direction, working at the VM and looking for windows network shares, however only one windows computer revealed its shared files, the others aren't findable.

I feel certain this is a basic task and I am just missing a step. Any help would be appreciated.

Use Bridged network instead of shared (check the user guide).
