    I moved my Windows 7 (Toshiba Protege R700) to Parallels 6 VM on MAC OSx10.7 using parallels transporter.

    On my Toshiba, WMI details about system responds as:

    wmic:root\cli>csproduct
    Caption Description IdentifyingNumber Name SKUNumber UUID Vendor Version
    Computer System Product Computer System Product ZA080261H PORTEGE R700 80032E49-0807-E011-8011-B05DA1080261 TOSHIBA PT311U-02K02V

    where as in my virtual machine, this is what i am getting:

    wmic:root\cli> csproduct
    Caption Description IdentifyingNumber Name SKUNumber UUID Vendor Version
    Computer System Product Computer System Product Parallels-22 E1 1C 26 68 7C B1 47 95 A4 B0 37 AA 79 E1 A7 Parallels Virtual Platform 261CE122-7C68-47B1-95A4-B037AA79E1A7 Parallels Software International Inc. None

    How can i modify my virtual machine to have values exactly as my Toshiba laptop?

    The hardware now is different - it is not Toshiba hardware anymore - Windows is running on the virtual hardware of parallels, so this is why this info has changed. It is a separate computer now - it is not possible to change this info.

    Thanks YanaYana. I know hardware is different but for me its important to have same hardware specs so that i can connect using the windows VM on my network.

    within windows 7 this information has been setup at the time of VM creation. Isn't there a way to alter this in windows WMI on VM?

    Unfortunately in that case i would have to move from Prallels to some other VM provider. Please let me know.

    RockOn, I hope I can clarify your thoughts on this:
    * Changing to another 'VM provider' will NOT solve your problem. You won't get them to clone the WMI information. The only way to change that is to hack it manually.

    But... I think you are aiming at the wrong information...

    * If the problem is connecting to your network than the information you LIKELY need to clone is the network adapter MAC ADDRESS all the rest is irrelevant.

    Conveniently, you can change the mac address to match that on your old computer via the VM 'Configure...>Hardware>Network 1'

    Thanks Specimen. I have already tried setting up MAC address but that's not working. The network is setup to recognize through WMI information (IdentifyingNumber).

    When this VM was created and i moved my Windows 7 (using parallel transporter), Transporter changed the WMI information to these new values while setting up the VM and one of the information about (SourceVmUuid) coming from Config.pvs file within windows 7.PVM package.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <ParallelsVirtualMachine schemaVersion="1.0" dyn_lists="VirtualAppliance 0">
    <AppVersion>6.0.12090.660720</AppVersion>
    <ValidRc>0</ValidRc>
    <Identification dyn_lists="">
    <VmUuid>{5bf28905-64d7-47a1-81ab-d0dc0c691279}</VmUuid>
    <SourceVmUuid>{22e11c26-687c-b147-95a4-b037aa79e1a7}</SourceVmUuid>
    <LinkedVmUuid></LinkedVmUuid>
    <VmName>Windows 7</VmName>

    I understand if i have to manually hack it, but can someone help how to do it? Even that would work.

    I don't want to go into wmi spoofing but I'm sure the information you want to change isn't in the config file of Parallels but in Windows registry?

    I checked registry manually as well as through ProcessMonitor for possible hidden values but didn't see any help there.

    Microsoft suggests this call has ReadOnly values
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa394105(v=vs.85).aspx

    and someone else replied on another forum that "these values are derived from the BIOS, so you may be able to change them there".

    Does this look correct to you?

    Perhaps, I have nothing to add to this topic, except that this seems like an unreasonable request. How can I be sure you are not trying to hack into a company network by trying to defeat this hardware check?

    Because, in a normal situation, a user switching from an old machine to a new one, which is really the equivalent here, the admins would update the information to allow login.

    So, I have no further comments.

    Well sorry to say but you are prematurely concluding it as unreasonable request.

    would it make sense if i tell you that i am the network admin myself in this case. We bought parallels for our employees to reduce dependency on multiple laptops and to aggregate and minimize our hardware footprint. The exercise i am involved with is our Lab.

    Problem is if IdentifyingNumber remains as above (formated as UUID) and customization is not possible, our other Asset tracking softwares won't work (or possibly need changes/customizations and additional money).

    Please indicate Parallels Official stand on this so that i can take it up with my management and possibly evaluate other VM providers. Parallels would not work for us in that case.

    If it cannot be discussed on open forums, let me know and i can gladly PM you.

    I don't work for Parallels this is a USERS/Customers forum mostly, you can contact parallels directly via support.

    My personal view on this is that you are going on the wrong route with this, no VM app will do what you want to achieve, and probably not even the more expensive server versions. It's the software that checks for this information that needs to be changed.

    RockOn,

    please contact support - this question should be discussed with tech people and Product maintenance team - they would let you know if it is possible. I personally doubt
