I haven't found this topic in the Knowledge Base so I'm posting here. I have used Parallels for Mac extensively and have version 7. I ran the latest update last week and had a message about a corrupt USB kext file. I re-ran the update with no error. Parallels now crashes regularly after about an hour or so complaining that the prl_disp_service is not available. I've followed the KB info about restarting it, which works, but I still have crashing issues. Note that the crashes can occur when I'm not using Parallels and it has 'gone to sleep'. Any ideas? cheers Huub
Sorry, some important missing information. I'm running Snow Leopard with all the latest updates. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Parallels - no usb kext error on reinstallation but still get the crashes so the two may not be related. cheers Huub
I found this problem too. Prl 7 crashed, and every time I have to restart win7, restart office word, and recover my document.
A solution I have since managed to make the problem go away but you won't like the answer. It appears that the problem is with the guest operating system not with Parallels itself. I know this because I created another virtual machine and installed Windows 7 on it. No problems at all. So the solution for me was to copy my virtual machine from my home computer and replace the virtual machine on my work computer with it (remembering to copy the MAC address over so that the work environment would think it was the same machine.) All of which doesn't tell me what the problem actually was and the solution is a bit drastic but it worked. cheers Huub
It seems I have also gotten it. I checked the cores file of prl_disp_service, and found that each time it crashed at the exactly same place, a function named qProxy???(). I thought it might be caused by my proxy settings. I set a http-proxy in my Mac, and in the GuestOS "Win7" I also set another http-proxy. After I disabled the latter, it worked. I think it's just a bug of prl, the programmer for prl should do something.
Hi, please generate a problem report (Help->Report a problem) and post it's id here. Thanks in advance.
Parallels won't start up Now, when I try to start Parallels, I get an error message: Unable to connect to Parallels Service - make sure the prl_disp_service process is active . . . I submitted an automatic report on this: ID 15825399 I was just trying to run my virtual Windows machine, not access online services, so I don't understand the message. WallyBeagley Mac OS 10.6.5
