I have two (what I understand to be) desktop icons that go somewhere (to the desktop?) of my virtual machine but both of them say that they are damaged or incomplete when I click on them.

I have my Virtual machine running and it is called "VM Windows 7".

What is the difference between the VM Windows 7.pvm icon and the VM Windows 7 icon since they both /look/ the same?

Also, is there a way to re-associate this icon so that I can use it on my Mac desktop and if so does anyone know where this is supposed to go?

    THANKS

take a look at the icon - if you see little black arrow inb the corner - it is an alias. Alias - is just a link to the actual file. Vm Windows 7.pvm (without the black arrow) is the actual virtual machine. To create new alias click in this file an choose "create an alias"

Hi. Thank you so much for this help.

So in my case I have a "(C) VM Windows 7" ICON on the desktop which is the HARD DRIVE of my Virtual Machine (and it is located in my Desktop Folder I guess) and then I have a "VM Windows 7.pvm" which is located in Mac Home Folder > Documents > Parallels > VM Windows 7.pvm" and I should just delete the TWO BAD ALIASES and create a NEW ALIAS for the VM Windows 7.pvm on my desktop, yes?

Do you know if I can ALSO create Aliases for The Documents Folder in the Virtual Machine and also put /this/ Alias in my Finder Bar and on the Desktop so I can DRAG AND DROP files from the Mac Side to the Windows Side of the Computer...?

    THANKS

yes you can remove bad aliases (make sure there is a black arrow at the icon).
about the file sharing - it is supposed to work in other way. From Windows you should be able to access Mac folders using Parallels Shared Folders icon on the desktop.
at the Mac side you should have C drive mounted to your desktop. If it is not mounted - go to VM Configuration > Options > Sharing

hi. thank you. i need to straighten out these aliases.

can i please ask you -

i am /not/ sharing folders because it just gets too complicated for me and I only keep a very minimal amount of data on the VM side anyway. I would /really/ just like a method for dragging and dropping a file from the mac side to the VM side.

right now this means I click out of Parallels/Windows by minimizing the screen, then I find the file on the mac desktop or in the mac documents folder - and then I put Finder side by side with Parallels/Windows and I DRAG the file to the WIndows desktop.

What I would really like to have is an ICON for the VM desktop and the VM documents folder on my MAC DESKTOP that I can drag and drop files to - and then I can get into the VM and the files will be there.

    Is this possible?

    THANKS.

Only think you can do is ENABLE sharing - but of the only one custom folder. Go to Confgure > Options > Sharing > Custom folder.
