The situation was: parallels + win xp; now: nothing but mountain lion. What to do...

Because I do not often use a windows program, I figured out AFTER installing Mountain Lion that there was no Parallels running anymore because I did use the 6-version (...). Anyway, I have a file called 'Microsoft Windows XP.pvm'.

Question: I need to buy Parallels 7 (still hope I can order the UPGRADE-version, which is also quite a fortune, after an update not long ago) and then hope to be able to install/mount/whatever 'Microsoft Windows XP.pvm'. Is that possible? And can I expect all (few by the way) Window programs then run as before they did in Parallels 6? And does the install process takes that job by itself?

Pff, what a disaster: just for getting my data from the very few Windows proggies back, AGAIN such a big amount of $$. Sometimes twice a year... After the $$$ for getting my dat back, I hope to find an other way: sorry, Parallels is ok, but that Parallels 6 just stops, is too bad, the sam with the upgrade-policy . Of course I got a few e-mails to buy the 7-version, but because I got so many "your can upgrade for only" e-mails, right after I upgraded (...), that you can understand that I was not all in the mood to hurry. I did miss maybe some of the message, I suppose (a pity because then I had not to upgrade to the 7-version to go to another platform). Sorry for this last subparagraph, but I am quit ... as a long Parallels-user.

    Thanks for any help,
    kind regards, nemo

the .pvm file is your parallels virtual machine. once parallels 7 is installed you will be able to open that virtual machine again. (back it up first by copying the file to an external drive, "just in case")
