I just recently downloaded the latest Parallels 8 update and installed the associated Parallels Tools update for my Ubuntu VM, but now when I login to my Ubuntu machine, the left-side icons launcher and the top-side menu bar will not appear at all. All I get is the main desktop and the files and folders that only appear on the desktop.

Please fix this Parallels Support. Preferably without telling me to update to the latest Ubuntu which barely came out (12.10). I am currently running 12.04.

Ubuntu 12.04 missing left and top bars

Same problem on a MacBooK Pro 2006 2.33 GHz 3 GB Mac OS 10.7.5. I managed to reinstall Parallels Tools at no avail.
On a iMac 21.5" 2010 4 GB Mac OS 10.8.2 no problem at all.

Please see here for a solution: http://forum.parallels.com/showpost.php?p=643944&postcount=16

Additionally I removed the tools first and then did a reinstall. Copy the tools iso to your linux box first. I had some issues with the CD driver as well. It can be found in /Applications/Parallels Desktop.app/Contents/Resources/Tools/prl-tools-lin.iso.
So you can mount it as a loop device if all fails.
