As title suggests I am having some problems with boot times and black screen since installing Windows 8 on my VM. Bit of info - mid-2011 base iMac with 8 gig of RAM using latest build of Parallels PD8 8.0. 18314. I have dedicated 2 gig of RAM and two cores to the VM along with 270mb for graphics. The upgrade went without any incident whatsoever albeit somewhat slow. I have reinstalled Parallels Tools. When booting I get the initial W8 blue window and swirling circle, this is followed by a black screen which lasts probably about 14 seconds followed by the welcome screen which then goes dark again then finally after some 42 seconds I have the start screen. This is a much slower boot time than W7 was using same build and a heck of a lot slower than the 9 seconds on my HP Windows 8 Laptop. Anyone have any ideas - I did read someone else having the same issue but cant find the post now?
I am having he same problem after the latest windows update was installed and the machine re-booted. Luckily, I had a backup of my machine. after I restored the working backup, I ran windows update again and installed the 8 or 9 "important updates". After rebooting, the login screen came up normally, but then went to black just as it did before. The problem must be caused or activated by one of the newest windows updates.
My thoughts are that PD8 needs further work as I'm finding it somewhat rough around the edges when using Windows 8. Example - with Windows 8 standard desktop one has to use the corners. However, I'm finding the corners rather unresponsive when pushing the mouse into a corner either for start or the charms bar. The boot time for my install is currently 44 seconds using two gigs of RAM and two cores and I'm still getting the black screen issue. Had no issues with Windows 7 and PD8?
