I am trying to install Windows XP and I am having a couple of problems: first, during the install, XP asks me to hit <F8> to confirm that I want to proceeed. Even though I am inside Parallels and other keys (like enter and escape work), <F8> still is mapped to its OS X functions. How do I get around this?

The second problem is that once I am using keys and mouse inside Parallels, it says to use <ctrl> A to get keyboard and mouse control back, but that does not work.

To get F8 to work on a macbook (inside and outside parallels) you need to press the fn key (lower left key on the keyboard.

I had to turn off the F8 shortcut in the Keyboard Preference Pane for it to work during the Windows install process. Normally F8 will look up a word in the dictionary in OS 10.4.
