Error 1720 during installation of Parallels Tools for Windows

Virtual machine: Windows XP Pro SP3, 4GB ram, 256MB video ram

When Windows XP Pro SP3 Virtual machine starts, it tries to do an update install of Parallels Tools. The following is the error window that appears:

Parallels Tools Installer Information
Error 1720.There is a problem with this Windows
Installer package. A script required for this install to
complete could not be run. Contact your support
personnel or package vendor. Custom action script
error , : Line , Column ,

After clicking OK to the window above, the following window appears:

Parallels Tools Installation
An error occurred while installing Parallels Tools.
Click OK to restart your virtual machine, and then try to install Parallels Tools again.

This is despite turning off Parallels Internet Security powered by Kaspersky for 15 minutes, prior to the installation. The only workaround to be able to continue is to use TASKMGR.EXE to End Task SETUP.EXE. Also, a manual installation of SETUP.EXE copied from pri-tools-win.iso in MAC\Library\Parallels\Tools has the same result.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to fix this?
