Hi, all. I have a nicely running Windows 7 virtual machine that I use on my MacBook Pro.

Now I would like to experiment with Windows 8.

Can I duplicate my Windows 7 virtual machine, then upgrade just the duplicate to Windows 8? Will I encounter any licensing, activation, or other problems doing that?

Is there any particular procedure I need to follow to duplicate or upgrade?

Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide. ...pt

you can duplicate it technically. However you are not advised to run them simultaneously on one or two different machines - it it Microsoft license agreement violation.

Thanks, Yana. I was not planning to run them simultaneously, so license-wise I should be OK.

To duplicate my Windows 7 virtual machine for upgrading to Windows 8, would I just duplicate it in the Mac's Finder? Or is there some duplication command within Parallels?

Either way, are there any "gotchas" to be aware of?

    Thanks. ...pt

Just duplicate the file and double click it - it will work ok

I also am having troubles installing Windows 8 with parallels for Windows 7. when I have Windows 7 install it runs very nicely. Now I would like to install windows 8, but after the install I am having trouble with the screen resolution. I cannot set the screen resolution to 1024 x 768 or my apps are crashing.

Yes, duplicating my Windows 7 virtual machine as directed, then upgrading it according to one of your Knowledgebase articles seems to have worked fine for me.

    Thanks again. ...pt
