I am currently running Windows 7 Pro in Parallels 8 on my MAC (OS X 10.6.8), and I am having an issue with my CD-ROM/DVD Drive. I want my Mac side to have priority with the drive, but everytime I put a CD in it opens in the VM. In fact, everytime I start Parallels it will unmount the drive on the Mac side and run the CD on the VM side. Here is an example:

    1. I put CD into drive to import into iTunes (VM is currently off)
    2. I turn the VM on while CD is playing in iTunes on Mac side
    3. CD will be unmounted from Mac side and will only be available on VM side (I can't even eject the CD using the eject button on the keyboard)

As of now, I can only figure out to disconnect the CD-ROM drive so that the VM doesn't cause this issue. I thought there might be a solution as to a priority setting somewhere (kind of like you can assign the Mac or VM side where to mount an external drive). Any input would be great!

    hi Jon

You may want to uncheck Connected from the Parallels VM configuration menu. With this option checked every time you start a vm, it connects to the dvd rom drive selected.

When ever you need to, you can always connect to the drive from the bottom right menu just by selecting it.
