Per the title, don't install the latest Parallels Tools update if you want to keep using Cinnamon in Mint 14. After the tools complete installation the OS will not boot into Cinnamon even if Cinnamon is manually chosen at the login screen. This seems to happen every few releases of the Parallels Tools. It is highly annoying and the only resolution was for me to replace the VM with a previously saved backup copy.
Has anyone with Linux Mint using Cinnamon successfully updated to the latest Parallels Tools? I'm still having no luck.
For anyone else experiencing problems with the latest version of Parallels Tools and Cinnamon in Mint or Ubuntu I found a solution here. It is a problem with Mesa3d 9.02 drivers which is resolved in the forthcoming 9.10 version. 9.10 can be installed as follows: 1. sudo apt-add-repository ppaibaf/graphics-drivers 2. sudo apt-get update 3. sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
