If I exclude the file: MacHD>User>ASF>Documents>Parallels>Windows 7.pvm from the backup made by Time Machine, do MS Word and Excel files and Outlook database get backed up? I have configured P8 to Share Macuser folder w/Windows and to Map Mac Volumes to Windows.

The only files I want to back up are my music/photo files, all PDFs, all Excel, Word and Powerpoint files and all the info within Outlook 2010. If I have all the disks (software), do I really need to back up my applications that came with OS Mountain Lion or my Windows OS and MS Office applications? I most concerned about data, not settings etc.

I'm a bit confused. Any thought would be terrific.

    HNY,

When you say you have the folders shared, do you mean mirrored? Can you see all your documents on your mac under documents? If not, then you aren't really mirroring it and chances are it's not actually backing that stuff up.

Also, on a side note, outlook cannot really be backed up per-say. The file for outlook is .ost if you are using exchange and it's located in c:\users\[yourname]\appdata\roaming\outlook. Any personal outlook folders are there as well. Not sure how to push those into the mac as the OST location is predefined in outlook.

Thanks for the prompt and informative reply. Yes, I can see all my files in the Mac folder called Documents, and I have seen those same folders/files within the back-up made by Time Machine on my Seagate external storage unit.

As far as Outlook's OST file is concerned, if I am backing up the .pvm, isn't that OST buried in there somewhere? I do use Outlook in Cache Exchange Mode, so my outlook data is stored locally as well as on the Exchange servers, so again, I assume it is somewhere in the back-up of Windows within my TM back-up.

I thought my question was straightforward. Do you have any input on it? I guess I could do a single back-up excluding the PVM and then see if that newest back-up contains the Word, Excel files that are "mirrored" into the Document folder on my Mac. Again, any thoughts?
