ExplainLikeImFive Please

I am absolutely lost here. DLd Parallels Desktop and installed yesterday; seemed like it was working fine with the Windows 8.1 Preview.

Then today I downloaded a full copy of windows from microsoft. This worked fine too, it loaded and set up fine-- at least that's what it seemed like.

Then I tried to run a very small .exe out of Finder and got this whole rigmarole about "converting the virtual machine" which frankly I don't even know what that means. It says -- choose where you would like to save it - I do that; it says it "failed to convert the virtual machine."

The little .exe utility I was running on the 8.1 preview is gone and can't seem to set up inside the regular copy of windows? Or to Parallels it now it looks like a VMWare Virtual Machine, whatever that is?

Please help. I just spent 120 dollars to buy windows run this little program and I just keep pressing stuff that does nothing.
