I just bought Parallels 9 in order to make a VM of Snow Leopard in order to run a PPC app using Rosetta. The app is Nikon Scan, and it is used with a firewire attached Nikon LS9000ED film scanner. My problem is that Nikon Scan opens and runs in the VM, but cannot 'see' the scanner. Can firewire devices somehow be seen by a Parallels VM?

My other option is to spend $499 on Silverfast Ai 8, or stick with Vuescan, which works but cannot take advantage of all the scanner offers. They will both run in 10.9.

Can you see the Firewire Bus under About the Mac -> More Info? in your VM.

I suspect Firewire driver was not implemented.

I think it might be better to get a second older machine with firewire to do it non virtually anyways.

I suspect you are right. The problem is partly that I'm using a MBA with a firewire to thunderbolt adaptor, and the Snow Leopard installation doesn't see any firewire bus. Time to dig out an old Mac!
