hmmmm well there is no mention of that in the Update post. all it says is the capability to "run 3D games," or something along that line.

what about Half-Life 2? i coulda sworn that they tried that.

Well, I've had UT2004 running, but its rather jerky - you'd be better off using BootCamp or getting the OSX native version.

I've had "Freelancer" running quite playably - but even then the sound is crackly and the opening "splash" and intro videos don't play and the shading on the cut-scenes is iffy.

Getting that far is, actually, jolly impressive - but touting "run 3D games" as a headline feature was, I think, a bit premature and could backfire.

Or do what I do...buy a game console and use it to play games. Considering what game developers go through to squeeze every ounce of performance out of DirectX and the underlying hardware, it is no surprise at all that a lot of games don't run well if at all in a virtualized hardware environment.

That is correct. As mentioned this is "supposed" to be 8.1 compliant. However it is pickey at best. I have tons more working on VMWare than I have in Parallels. At the very least all of my development tools work with VMWare an DirectX 8.1 and even some 9 stuff if it doesn't have 9 specific calls (backward compatibility)

If you are buying Parallels because you think you can start playing your uber games on it, forget it. Just buy a PC for gaming. This is definately a broken feature. I personally only wanted it to reduce the amount of computers I have for development. C'Est La Vie for now.

We will see in a year or two what they do.

Yep... way too much hype. Direct X 9 (or better) is the standard. Who was the genius that decided to support only 8.1? They might as well have supported only Win 98 or some earlier version. Big disappointment on my end. Even more so after the terrible tech support to get the upgrade.
    :(
