Hi, I have an iMac 27" late 2013 model, running OS 10.9.4, with 3.5 GHz i7, 32 GB of RAM and a 3 TB SATA hard disk drive (with 2.18 TB of storage remaining). I bought it less than 2 months ago from the Apple Online store, and have been using it up until now with no problems. I generally use Parallels 10 running Windows 8.1 for gaming and install games often, but only recently my version of Windows 8.1 completely stopped working for absolutely no reason. Windows failed to boot, and would come up with a Boot Failed error, with something relating to EFI failed. Nothing would work, no safe mode, no reset, I couldn't even shut down the virtual machine, and even after closing parallels and restarting my iMac it would still be in suspended mode. My configuration was 32gb of RAM for the virtual machine, with 8 CPU's and 200gb of storage (about 120gb was used). With little to no online support for this, I decided to fully delete my virtual machine and reinstall windows 8.1 as a brand new virtual machine, which rectified the problem. Now my Mac continues to freeze, no functions work and I have to power off and reboot to fix it. Did Parallels ruin my brand new computer? What caused Windows 8.1 to fail?? How can I go about fixing this?????? Any advice would be amazing, Regards, hmforward
Its very unlikely Parallels was the cause of this, more likely your PC developed a fault which hosed your Parallels install. If it was me, Id do a full OS clean install to verify core functionality is stable and working with some benchmarking software to stress test the base machine. If that shows up any errors, take it back to the store for them to check it over. If you are technically proficient, might be worth checking obvious user serviceable items like RAM chips are seated firmly and securely before you take the trip. good luck and sorry to hear about your issues.
Thanks for your speedy reply, I might give this a go, running some benchmarking software as we speak. Will post any updates, Cheers
