    Hi,

I am running Quickbooks 2008 in Desktop for Mac. My office is set up as a PC/Windows workgroup, with the company file on a specific computer on the network. All of the PC's share the file as multi user and it has been this way for a couple of years. When I try to open the company file in quickbooks, through the shared folder from the QB File computer (Mac location: network name and folder location added through Devices/Shared Folder/Add), I get the following error: "A device attached to the system is not functioning." I have disabled all firewalls, Windows and Mac and do not have any virus software running, temporarily.

Please let me know if there is a solution.

    Thank you,
    Drew

Have you tried connecting to the QB File computer directly from the virtual machine instead of using a shared folder? You may need to change the Network Adapter from Shared Network to Bridged Network in the virtual machine configuration.

Hi, I have tried both the bridge and standard sharing and tried accessing through the Parallels "Network" and the Mac network through "My Computer." I am still getting the "A device attached to the system is not functioning" error. Also, I checked the sharing setup on the base computer, which has Windows XP - sp3, and everything is all right there.

    Thank you,
    Drew

Are you using Parallels 5 or 6?

The screen shot is hiding the path to the file so we can't see how you are accessing it.

Are you able to copy the file from that location to your C:\ drive using Windows Explorer? This will tell us if the problem is with Outlook or with the file's location.

It sounds like you've tried both
    \\.psf\MacSharedFolderOnWindowsServer
    and
    \\WindowsServerIPAddress\PathToFile

If not, then try again, but use Windows Explorer to try to copy from the above paths. IF you're using Parallels 6, replace .psf with psf.
