can't log in / Windows Crashing / plz help!

    Hi!

First - Having parallels is really cool. I get to enjoy my mac again, instead of having to spend so much time in Windows. I have a glitch I could use some help on....

I'm on a MBP, 10.4.10, in Parallels 3214, running Windows XP in there so I can keep using my MSOutlook (plus archives).

The problem is everytime I launch Windows I have to change my network settings back and forth. One launch I'll have to change from Host only networking to Shared networking, before I can get Windows to finish launching. We're not done yet.... then I have to disable the network driver in Parallels Tools to get network access - here's the rest of the story... I'll get everything set, use for the day, restart the next day, with the settings I left off on, and have to change from the sharing back to host only, and then have to turn the network driver back on in PT - even though it worked fine under the other setting the last "session". The next log-in I'll have to change everything back. It weird. It's like alternating the modulation of my harmonic frequency (startrak reference)

Any ideas? Hope this makes some kinda sense.

    Thanks
    -t

When you go into parallels menu (click on parallels icon, then you get new screen on desktop). click for on memory, then you get new menu. Click on Options, on the right off screen you see booting, boot sequence and click on CD ROM. Restart with your cdrom off windows.

When windows is restarted reinstall your parallels tools (in tab above click on actions, install parallels tools)

I'm getting a Windows Setup Screen, looks like it loading (all still in blue screen), and then it crashes, too. What should I do? Am I going to have to reinstall my entire Windows side?

wow. what a train wreck. I completely uninstalled Parallels, reinstalled, and cannot get Windows XP to complete loading. I get the blue set up with all the drivers loading shown at the bottom of the window, but installation doesn't complete. I get a blue screen of fatal error once the Windows is Starting message appears (again in the lower left corner). PLEASE advise!

I am having the exact same problem and cannot find a solution.

I posted this on another thread, but no solution there either.

I did not have this problem until I upgrade to the latest build 4560.

Did you install any network drivers to the VM besides what comes in Parallels Tools? If you are disabling the Parallels driver for networking to work, that is what it suggests.

I'm just doing an express install of Windows XP into Parallels, and right after the "Setup is preparing to launch Windows" message appears (after all the drivers and stuff have loaded - like it's the last step to Windows functioning) I get the blue screen of death and Parallels crashes. Doesn't matter what version of Parallels I try, what I have enabled/disabled, nothing works. I'm pretty close to just totally abandoning this product, and recommending my coworkers to avoid the hassle.

I have what sounds like the exact same problem. I've been trying whatever I can to fix this, but still haven't found the right solution. I'm running build 5060, and have switched back and forth between shared networking and bridged. However, I've recently discovered that my VM actually does have connectivity, but cannot resolve DNS whatsoever. I've managed to pull up websites by using the IP address, and have tried manually setting the DNS server addresses in the TCP/IP properties to no avail. This is my second install of WinXP (my first install was fine, but decided to reinstall after a failed upgrade to Vista).

It's the pinnacle of frustration being unable to get a program to function properly, thencompounded with having begun a support forum string that started back in June (3 months ago!) - and there's still no recommendation/resolution. As you can see my initial issue began with having to switch the networking back and forth. Then someone recommended that I reinstall Parallel Tools, which led to the corruption of running the program at all.

Here's the solution that I ended up going with: ditch Parallels and use VMWare Fusion.

I hate to say it, but I've tried darn near everything other than completely deleting Parallels and going through the hassle of reinstalling it, and then doing a new install of Windows. Trying not to rant about the issue, I just can't stress enough that time is productivity, and productivity is money, and instead of spending hours trying to resolve this issue correctly, I jumped ship. Fusion, I've found, seems to use a simpler interface for networking (No weird pseudo network connections on the Mac side), and feels more responsive that Parallels ever did.

So, I'm sure there's a way to get the networking back up again (it did work fine in my first Windows VM afterall), but I'm just not up for it. I doubt the Parallels guys will like me praising their competitor either.

When I first installed Parallels, I was thoroughly impressed. Another staff member had installed Fusion and tried to pull me into trying it, but since we'd bought several Parallels licenses, I went with Parallels. Shortly there after the networking issue popped up, which then evolved into the issue I have now.

No one is jumping between systems (Mac and XP) as much as I do, and now no one else wants to install Parallels since having seen my issues. I wish I was just having the network issues now. I've totally uninstalled everything. I've reinstall Parallels, begin to express install XP and its drivers, get to "Set Up is Starting Windows" and that's when Windows crashes. I can't get past this point. I'm checking back at this forum from time to time to see if any solutions have been offered, but nothing yet. Meanwhile, I'll keep working on the Windows Desktop and the Mac Laptop. Disappointing.

I took another run at it following the instructions at http://kb.parallels.com/entry/31/458/ - and I'm FINALLY running xp on my MBP 10.4.10. I'm not having the original network problems anymore, and I'm actually running XP in Pll (3212) successfully again. I installed Parallel Tools, too. I'm going to take baby steps in doing any further program installs in XP until I'm sure it's stable, and the networking problem doesn't reappear. The support I got through this forum was rather disappointing, too. It took months to finally stumble on the answer.
