Upgrade Gone Bad!!!!!

Hi...
Downloaded PDM build 4560 today and started the upgrade from 4128...which worked fine for me, even with the partial installation of Parallels Tools.

Everything in the setup of 4560 was fine, even the install of parallels tools went Ok...
after the installation, parallels asked for a restart.

After installing tools, my Win XP Pro, crashes just when the win desktop appears...
Any clue how to fix, this????

I have important information on my VM that I can not afford to loose.

Same here - possible workaround

Hi - I had a perfectly working Build 4128 w/WinXP Pro and upgrading to 4560 was a nightmare.

On restart after Parallels Tools install - Parallels would crash. I restored my previous installation - tried de-installing 4128 first as recommended - no difference.

Problem seemed to be tied in with Coherence 2 and Parallels doing something to make the Windows applications available on the Mac - or vice versa. Parallels would crash before I could make sense out of the messages that flashed up in Windows.

In any case - my work-around, which seemed to work:

Open the Parallels application - do not start the Virtual Machine.
From the Edit menu select "Virtual Machine"
Select "Shared Applications" from the list
De-select everything - click okay.

Start the Virtual machine
For me - Windows then booted normally.

I later quit Windows and went back to the Edit Virtual Screen and selected only "Share Windows on Mac" - so I could launch Windows apps from the Mac desktop or toolbar.

All seems to be well except 4560 now does not remember the window size/position in the "OS Window" mode.

Hope this helps / works. Without a back-up I would have been screwed...

in the clone all three boxes are checked
but I never had those problems

are there memory issues?
I always used about 500 mb

just gone to 924 as per recomendation for 3.0

after experiencing the same loss of work last september with a beta

I make a weekly clone of my VM on a firewire external disk

and all my data is in shared folders on the Mac side
much of my critical data is off site in web folders or sites or google Docs and Spread sheets
or as an attachment in a google mail to myself

No, it's not accessed from View menu, but from the Configuration window on the display...

Click on the MS Logo in the upper left corner and you'll get the configuration options window where you can do this...

Another upgrade failure

Here is another case where I upgraded to build 4560, and my Windows VM crashed with an error about video display not being supported. Trying again caused my MacOS MBP to simply core dump, and completely crash.

After rebooting, the sodding Parallels has wiped out the .pvs file.

How can I recover from this?

I can provide copies of the crash dump from the Mac.

I am getting exactly the same issue with the same crash report as in the start of this thread.

I do have a VERY large number of applications on the Mac. I suspect this may be the problem.

 

This is definitely caused by shared applications

If I do a custom install and set Windows and Mac shared applications off in the VM preferences and then install Parallels tools without the Shared Applications option. Everything else works properly.

For the record or anyone from Parallels who might be reading, Apple System Profiler shows some 400 applications on the Mac. A number of these would be PPC apps.
